The Senate omnibus elections bill (SF 677) authored by Sen. Katie Sieben (DFL-Newport), will now be heard in the Senate State Departments and Veterans Division Committee on Monday at 3:00 p.m. or the call of the chair in room 107 of the Capitol.
The bill contains seven articles and includes provisions to: establish early voting and no excuse absentee voting; clarify felon notification of voting rights restoration (resulting from the Governor’s Task Force on Election Integrity); change the state primary date from August to June; and adjust two different boundaries as a result of re-districting.
The League supports establishing early voting as it is consistent with the League’s elections policies (SD-62 on page 39 in the 2013 City Policies [pdf]) and encourages members to contact their legislators to support the legislation.
