After little discussion, the bill passed on a party line vote 5-4 in the State Departments and Veterans Division.

Authored by Sen. Katie Sieben, SF 677 will now be heard in the Senate Finance committee and if passed, it is anticipated it will then be heard on the Senate floor.
Language to establish an electronic roster pilot project and task force was amended onto the bill. This legislation, SF 1232, is traveling individually and is authored by Sen. Terri Bonoff (DFL-Minnetonka).
SF 677 contains language to establish early voting which is supported by the League of Minnesota Cities. Cities are encouraged to contact their legislators and ask them to support the bill and it makes it way towards the Senate floor.
The governor has said that all elections legislation must have bipartisan support to be signed into law. Because of this, Sen. Sieben encouraged members of the committee to weigh in on the bill and offer changes or concerns they may have. While there was some discussion, members focused their questions on technical provisions of the bill. It passed on a roll call party line vote with five democrats voting yes and four republicans voting no.
